Mechanics Of Structure:

Supplementary Course: Dipti Bhaindarkar

Introduction:

The invention of lifts and increasing population resulted in formation of taller buildings to accommodate more people and their needs. This lead to more complex structures and newer methods of building. Every structure starts with a foundation whose length is determined by the ground type and the bearing capacity of the soil. The basic structural system consists of columns and beams whose dimensions are in relation to each other. The structural system is often modified according to the design without compromising its structural integrity.

Learnings:

In this module, we understood how force transfers from one structural element to the other and the relationship between the dimensions (the column width to beam depth to the span).

-how the structural system can be modified according to the design while still keeping the structural integrity in place.

-the types of forces and how we can overcome them
