INSECT (Logic of Form and Movement)

The grasshopper is one of the very few insects that grabs my attention. The hind leg is the characteristic feature of the grasshopper. The kick of the back legs is what makes the grasshopper, the tiny insect, hop such long distances.

Keeping this distinct feature in mind, using wood, we have tried to understand the form and the back leg's mechanism.

Reflections:

The objective of this module was to learn how the form of an insect helps in its movement. We tried to replicate the mechanism of a grasshopper's hind leg with wood and using some strings and screws to help it kick. The installation doesn't necessarily made for a utility purpose but to observe how form and movement work simultaneously.
